Week 20, 2024 - Diary of a Revenue Engineer
Quote of the Week:
"Efficiency is doing better what is already being done."
- Peter Drucker
What I thought…
As the weather swings between extremes, I find myself eagerly anticipating the steadiness of summer.
This week has been a rollercoaster, both in the skies and in the professional realm.
Red flags have popped up at a client organization, making me question the best way forward. With so many demands pulling at my time, I find myself reflecting on whether my current routine is truly empowering me or just another drain on my energy.
What I learned…
A stark realization hit me this week: an incredible product and a thriving company can be swiftly undermined by poor culture within a single department.
Case in point, a client organization suffering from a toxic sales culture that’s dragging down the entire operation.
On a brighter note, my dive into bio-hacking continues to captivate me, though distinguishing fact from hype remains a challenge.
Additionally, I’ve been enlightened on the dual nature of global logistics—while the technology and skills involved are impressive, inefficiencies abound.
An eye-opener was learning about “passing in the sky,” where countries simultaneously import and export identical goods due to disjointed logistics planning.
What I built…
This week’s projects have been diverse and demanding.
I crafted comprehensive go-to-market (GTM) materials and services for a coaching client, which was both rewarding and intense.
To accommodate my new commuting schedule, I revamped my daily routine—time management is now more crucial than ever.
On the fitness front, I experimented with AI scheduling tools like Reclaim. While it’s an intriguing concept, I’m not yet convinced I’m getting the most out of the free version.
How I lived longer…
Health and longevity were focal points this week.
I recommitted to my fitness regimen, maintaining a balanced diet, and incorporating intermittent fasting.
Even my 70-year-old stepmother is joining the bio-hacking wave, recommending “How Not to Die” by Michael Greger and Gene Stone, which is now at the top of my reading list.
Additionally, I added a Thursday morning boxing session to my workouts. These early sessions are grueling but immensely rewarding, boosting both my physical and mental resilience.
How I stayed happier…
Maintaining happiness amidst the hustle is a priority.
Journaling remains a therapeutic outlet, helping me process the week’s events.
We’ve also booked a holiday to Cornwall, which gives us something wonderful to look forward to. Lastly, I’ve made it a point to spend more time outdoors.
Balancing work with fresh air and nature has been refreshing and rejuvenating, proving essential for my well-being.
Final Thoughts…
Efficiency is a delicate balance of innovation and routine.
Whether in business, fitness, or personal growth, it’s vital to discern meaningful practices from mere hype.
Organizational culture can make or break a company, and addressing inefficiencies—especially in logistics—can yield substantial benefits.
As summer approaches, maintaining an active lifestyle, planning restful breaks, and embracing continuous learning will pave the way for a more fulfilling and productive life.
